550MHz Solid-state NMR Spectrometer

550 MHz Spectrometer

The 500 MHz spectrometer utilizes a Magnex 89mm bore super conducting magnet fitted with room temperature shims and a homebuilt controller designed to compensate for magnetic drift. The spectrometer is based on a commercially available Tecmag Apollo console that includes the pulse programmer, RF, and digitizer; all controlled by a Dell PC computer. Three channels are available with 500 MHz amplification accomplished by a solid state first stage and tuned tube amplifier final stage. The X and Y RF channels of the three channel Apollo system utilize an ENI and AMT amplifier respectively. This spectrometer is outfitted with a home built transmit and receive circuit employing a Miteq preamplifier, and uses semi-rigid coaxial quarter waves and diodes optimized for experiments routinely performed in the laboratory. Variable temperature NMR operation is achieved with the use of a Haake F3 variable temperature bath and a home-built controller that regulates the probes' internal heater. Several home-built probes are available for this system including double resonance 15N, 1H in both flat and round coil configurations, a 2H, 1H double resonance round coil probe and 1H, 15N and 13C triple resonance probes, all capable of our typical variable temperature operation.
