700MHz Solid-state NMR Spectrometer

700 MHz

The 700 MHz spectrometer utilizes a Magnex 62mm bore super conducting magnet fitted with room temperature shims and a homebuilt controller designed to compensate for magnetic drift. As with the 550 system, this spectrometer is based on a commercially available Tecmag Apollo console that includes pulse programmer, RF, and digitizer; all controlled by a Dell personal computer. The Apollo system has been modified to operate at 700 MHz; 483 MHz supplied by a PTS500 and 217 MHz generated by the Apollo. Three channels are available with 700 MHz amplification accomplished by a solid state 100w AMT first stage amplifier and a tuned tube amplifier final stage supplied by Amplifier Systems Inc. The X and Y RF channels of the three channel Apollo system utilize a pair of AMT amplifiers with one of them shared with the 550 MHz NMR. This spectrometer is outfitted with a home built transmit and receive circuit utilizing a Miteq preamplifier, which are semi-rigid coaxial quarter waves and diodes optimized for the experiments routinely performed in the laboratory. Variable temperature NMR operation is achieved with the use of a Bruker variable temperature system and a home-built controller that regulates the probes' internal heater. Several home-built probes are available for this system including double resonance 15N, 1H in both flat and round coil configurations and a 1H, 31P double resonance flat coil probe, all capable of our typical variable temperature operation.
